Cut, slide, and unfold — every area formula is a scissors story, and every box tells two tales.

REMEMBER: Every area formula is a cutting story — a triangle is HALF a rectangle, which is why the ½ is in the formula. The height is measured straight up (perpendicular), never along a slant. Volume fills the inside (cubic units); surface area covers the outside (square units) — a box wears 6 faces, in 3 matching pairs. Count them all.

Part 1 · Shape Composer

Pick a shape, size it with the sliders, and watch the scissors work: the gold dashed pieces show how every shape composes into (or cuts out of) a rectangle. The formula isn't a rule to memorize — it's what the scissors discovered.

Part 2 · Box Factory Floor — Inside or Outside?

Every factory order needs the right measurement. Commit first: does the job call for volume (filling the inside) or surface area (covering the outside)? Then the factory computes both and shows which one the job actually needed.

Part 3 · Factory Machines

Three machines run the factory floor — each prints its cutting story, its packing count, or its coordinate walk.

Any triangle, parallelogram, or trapezoid — the machine retells its rectangle story with your numbers.

One box, two measurements: volume by cube-packing (½-unit cubes for fractional edges!) and surface area by unfolding the net.

Polygons built from vertex coordinates — side lengths come from the Submarine's distance rules.

📗 Word Box

Area
The number of square units covering a flat shape — what the scissors stories measure.
Perimeter
The distance around a shape's boundary. A fence, not a floor — never confuse it with area!
Base & height
Any side can be the base; the height is the PERPENDICULAR distance to it — straight up, never along a slant.
Compose & decompose
Building a shape into a rectangle, or cutting it into simpler pieces — the twin moves behind every area formula.
Right rectangular prism
A box shape: six rectangular faces meeting at right angles, like a cereal box or aquarium.
Volume
The space inside a solid, measured in CUBIC units — how many unit cubes pack it. V = lwh = Bh.
Net
A solid unfolded flat — six connected rectangles for a box. Fold it back up and the solid returns.
Surface area
The total area of ALL the faces — the net's area, in SQUARE units. For a box: 2(lw + lh + wh).
