Length: How long an object is, found by reading both ends on the ruler.
Smallest division: The tiniest marked spacing on the ruler; on a mm ruler it is 1 millimeter.
Estimated digit: The one extra digit you guess between the smallest marks — always included in a good measurement.
Certain digits: The digits you can read directly from the marks, before the estimated one.
Significant figures: All the digits that carry real information, including the one estimated digit.
Precision: How finely a tool can measure; a mm ruler is more precise than a cm-only ruler.
Zero point: The mark you line the object's left edge up with; if it isn't 0, you must subtract.
Millimeter (mm): One tenth of a centimeter; 10 mm = 1 cm.
